Mr Jankowski practised as a Solicitor from March 1978 to August 2000 when he was admitted to the Bar.

For the last 18 years of that period he operated his own legal firm, 10 years of which he practised exclusively in Criminal Law which included appearing as Solicitor Advocate in criminal trials in the District Court.
